To market, To market..

Tapestry, Bazaar, souk

I wanted to start off the week with a jolt of color, inspiration and sheer fun. Do you know the nursery rhyme To market, to market..? A market of any sort is an exciting place filled with myriad sights, sounds and smells. But call that market a bazaar or a souk and the excitement level is raised by several notches, don't you think? Today I want to share with you inspiring pictures of bazaars and souks from various parts of the world. Apparently, a bazaar means a "permanent enclosed market" and a souk an open air marketplace. (Source: Wikipedia). Like The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey, the Marrakech souk in Morocco, the bustling markets that are found all over India, the old Matrah souk in Muscat, Oman, the old markets of Singapore and the Gold and Spice souks of Dubai.  Whatever they mean and wherever they are, they spell enchantment. Exotic lanterns, gauzy chiffons, hammered silver and brass, tantalizing spices, lingering attar (perfume) and the most amazing foods. What will you buy, I wonder?

There is something about the golden California summer days that reminds me of my visits to hotter climes and the various bazaars and souks and I wanted to share that excitement with you.
